Get up!

Whether you notice it or not, we train jumping mechanics all the time here.  Sometimes it’s pretty obvious (like any time the word “jump” is part of a movement), but other times it might be more subtle (like when we squat, clean, swing a kettlebell or anything else that involves an explosive or forceful hip opening).  Today’s challenge is to move quickly and efficiently from moving an external load with our jumping mechanics to moving our body through space with very similar patterning.

Pick an object to jump over that will challenge you but won’t slow you down with fear (as in don’t pick something so high that you become tentative to jump because you feel like you might wipe out.)  As is the case with so much of our training, our head plays the primary role in this scenario.  Our choice here should be one that does not make fear a factor in moving fast.

STR:

Back Squat
5-5-5-5-5

WOD:

10 rounds

5 thrusters (95/65)
5 box over jumps (no higher than 20″)

* try to pick a height/object that you can jump over cleanly, without touching the top.  Benches, agro boxes, parallettes and pvc are all fair game.

Squats: 275# – I thought it was a PR at 285 but I was using a 35# bar. Can we get some white/blue tape on them? The blue ends on the 45# bar and the blue tape on the 35# bar is really confusing early in the morning

    WOD: 6:35 95# and a bench

    Squats: 185# PR (previously, 155#)

WOD: 7:38 w/ wussy 65# thrusters (I gotta do a better job at warming up 75#s) and bench

LBBS: 123# PR. Maybe I could have gone higher, I just felt so tired…
WOD: 8:40 w/ green box and 55# thrusters. Stopped after almost every round to catch my breath. 🙁 happy to have thrusters in small bunches so I could try a weight I was unsure of.

    HBBS: 275# PR
I decided to squat barefoot for the first ever and it actually felt pretty good! HERE’S TO ATHLETE’S FOOT! 😀

    WOD: 7:29 RX (20″ box)
I liked this one. The short rep scheme made it mentally less painful. I suggest we redo this one again but in this manner:

    For time
    50 thrusters
    50 box over jumps

It would be interesting to see how the times differ 🙂
