Combining the technical with the unilateral

Dumbbell snatches combine some of the technicality of the barbell snatch with the unbalanced loading of a unilateral movement.  While at first glance it might look like someone doing a DB snatch is just ripping it off the ground, there is a lot of technique that goes into moving it efficiently.  As is often the case, I’ve included a couple of videos to help prepare you for today’s movement.

The workout is on the longer side and the rep count will get high.  Remember, as the loading will be lighter with this movement than say, a barbell snatch, it’s almost more important to make sure your back is in the proper position, especially as we pull from the floor.  And don’t forget to stabilize your shoulder at the top; you don’t have the advantage of a barbell being held by two hands to help with this.

For those of you participating in or spectating the open, we are once again be running this week’s workout at 11am Saturday. Athletes will receive and email by noon with heat information. If you’re not planning on doing the workout Saturday, please email brian@crossfitsomerville.com
