Continuing today with Part 3 of our series on reasons that you should participate in the CrossFit Open.  Today we talk about Intensity.
Intensity: Imagine this.  Your heart rate is through the roof, breathing is labored; sweat pouring off of your head, muscles burning and screaming at you to stop.  But you keep pushing through.  For one more rep at a time.  One more minute at a time.
Some members of CrossFit Somerville have been a part of competitive sports all their lives, and they will know this feeling of intensity well, and embrace this physiologic reaction to pushing themselves to this place.  For those of you who get this, you don’t need much more convincing to join the Open.
Many of us, though, have never been part of a competitive athletic event, and we may not really know what it means to push ourselves to the limit.  In the CrossFit Open, the competitive aspect of each workout may help us find a new threshold of intensity that we never knew we had.  Once we break through, it makes everything else that we do in the gym (and in life!) seem that much easier.
The CrossFit Open starts on February 26th, with five workouts over the course of five weekends.  If you are interested in participating in the CrossFit Open, you can sign up on The CrossFit Games Website.  Create an account, register, and join the CrossFit Somerville Affiliate and Team.  You can also check out the CrossFit Open Page or the recent CFSV Newsletter for more details on this years’ Open.
If you are unsure if the CrossFit Open is for you, talk to your coaches and fellow athletes who have participated before; I’m certain you will hear about many positive experiences.  This year, there is even a scaled division, if you are worried that the Rx movements or weights might not be appropriate for you.

Snatch Grip Deadlift 3-3-3-3-3-3
