Continuing Development

You may not know this, but every week the entire coaching staff at CFSV gets together at least once for a long meeting where we talk about you. Yes, you. We care about you – about how to meet you where you are physically and emotionally, about how to help you develop strength and new skills, about how to push you towards your goals. It’s at that meeting that we also develop both the workout programming for the next week and (six times each year) develop the strength cycles and test/retest themes for each programming cycle.

We do it together because it’s important for us to all be on the same page when we’re coaching you – and it’s valuable for us to bring our own individual expertise and experiences with you to the discussion.

At these meetings we’ll also frequently all WOD together. Sometimes we’re testing a particularly fiendish new WOD that we’ve been dreaming up. Sometimes we’re just enjoying each other’s company and pushing each other to be better athletes. Sometimes we’re coaching each other on technique. Always, we’re getting the same kind of benefits you’re getting from classes at CFSV: camaraderie, encouragement, excitement, and the good old-fashioned health benefits of CrossFitting. We get better, and everything’s better when it is part of expanding our connections with other people.

This weekend, several of us are going to be lifting and learning together at a USA Weightlifting instructor certification course. Chris and JT will be getting a bit more time under the bar, further expanding the expertise available to all of us in class and out. Open Gym and the Saturday WOD are cancelled this weekend as a result, but I wager it’ll be worth it.

Here’s the skinny on that Rowing Workshop I mentioned…

UPCOMING WORKSHOP: Kirstie and Cleo will be hosting a 2-hour Rowing Workshop on Saturday, June 20 from 11:30am-1:30pm after the Saturday WOD. It’s a no-charge, no-count class: just show up and learn something good about Rowing. We teach basic technique for safety in the classes, but this is your chance to spend 2 hours learning skills and drills that will make your rowing more efficient and effective in your workouts!

As for today’s WOD? It’s about continuing the good Deadlift form we’ve cultivated into some heavy WOD work, and using those great Toes To Bar that you’ve developed! Oh, and another skill to work on developing…

Deadlift
5-5-3-3-2-2

2RM DL: 280#, second rep a bit ugly.
WOD: 5+15 w/ GHD situps in place of TTB (Hands are pretty ripped up from this week). Pretty brutal sub.
