Very Special Guest
One thing that isn’t talked about much in our culture is how workers are treated by their employers. Those of you who have spent much time around me (or even a class or two with me) know that I have strong feelings about ethical business practices including a providing health insurance, a living wage, and sufficient time off for workers. These things aren’t mandatory in our society, but they are the right thing to do… so I do them.
The upshot of all this is that while Nick is off this week, Kirstie still needs a day off. đŸ™‚ I’ll be coaching the noon and evening again, but morning classes will have a very special guest instructor: Eric Siegel. Eric’s a longtime friend of mine and former Head Coach at CrossFit Fenway for 6+ years. Eric’s a familiar face to any of you who have dropped in to our new Olympic Weightlifting class on Wednesday nights, and I’m sure he’ll have some great pointers on your OH Squats today.
In addition, he’ll be able to help you dial in technique for our dumbbell snatches! These are heavy and will require your focus to jump them up and stabilize them overhead. Don’t be afraid to push the weight: we bought those big heavy DBs for a reason. I <3 this WOD and strength pairing to end the week, and I’m sure you will too!
STR:
Overhead Squats
* build to a heavy single
WOD:
AMRAP 20
5 Burpees
10 Single-arm DB Snatch (from floor, alternate arms) (70/50)
30 Double Unders (0:60 cap on attempts each round)
STR: 80#
WOD: 9+4 with 25# db and DUs
STR: 165#
WOD: 6+10 with singles
And begrudging gratitude to Travis for the goal to go heavier on the overhead squats next time…
STR: 85#
WOD: Skipped because I did an 11 mile run, which was successfully completed in 2:02! Woo.
Just looked over my past OHS PRs and my last PR was 50#, so I’m feeling really solid about a 35# jump đŸ˜€
Congrats on the big PR, Jennifer! Congratulations also to Nelly, who got a 10# PR today too!
Did I mention that your coaches <3 this WOD? Kirstie joined us in the noon and put up a 7+6 Rx! And I stuck around after the noon class and did 8+6 Rx. Probably should have had more but spent too much time watching that DB bounce around on the ground and not enough focus controlling it to the ground and getting it back up again.
STR: 135# – a solid 15# PR! Need to get my wrists stronger!
WOD: 7+ some stuff. @ 50#. Dubs came and went and came back again. Thanks to the disney music!
