Charity Open Season
Back in the day, big benchmarks were sometimes sent out to a CrossFit box before they went on the mainsite. The goal to have some top end competitors attack the workout on camera and give people a goal to chase. For today’s Hero workout, the times to chase are posted below.
Since the inception of the CrossFit Open, however, there’s been another great way to find a target to chase. Athletes around the world will complete the same WODs for 5 weeks starting February 23. You can register at games.crossfit.com to post up your own scores and see how they compare on the Leaderboard, or you can just look up the scores there and see what to chase.
17.1: Feb. 23 – 27
17.2: March 2 – 6
17.3: March 9 – 13
17.4: March 16 – 20
17.5: March 23 – 27
Registering online costs $20 which goes to CrossFit HQ and makes you eligible to compete in the Northeast Regionals if you’re fast and strong enough to be in the top 30 men or women in New England. (Our own Brian Kirk is taking a swing at that.)
If you’re not interested in that option, though, I still encourage you to sign up with us to come complete the WODs. We’ll be encouraging you to take the $20 you’d send to CrossFit HQ and instead put it together with us to donate to RESPOND INC, a local charity fighting domestic violence and operating a women’s shelter.
RESPOND partners with individuals, families and communities to end the serious public health issue of domestic violence. RESPOND strives to achieve its mission through prevention, intervention and education services that promote safe, healthy relationships.
We’ll all be getting together to cheer each other on each Saturday during Open season, so go ahead and either sign up online or send Mel an email at info@crossfitsomerville.com to let her know you’ll be joining us and chipping in to help protect women in our neighborhood.
Let’s test our strength, cheer our friends, and strengthen our community both inside and outside the box this Open Season. It’s fun, and you can do it!

Brian way to kill it!
I got housed at 65# with form on the pushups deteriorating. Got to 9 rounds plus 5 at the 22 min cap, but finished through to 23:25. Shout out to Professor TB for the words of wisdom on the appropriate weight to choose. Definitely felt great to finish this one up!
So glad we are joining together to support RESPOND. Thanks for organizing!
WOD: 9+14
So close! Spent too much time on the Thrusters – need to get into a better rhythm with them.
