The Open Approaches
The CrossFit Open approaches, and the first workout is less than two weeks away! It’s time to get excited and either register online or send Mel an email letting her know that you want to join us on Saturdays for the Open WODs.
I read a funny article about CrossFit competition that I wanted to share with you that really speaks to why it’s a real gift for you to participate in something like this, and even to invite your friends to come watch you and cheer you on.
As the writer notes, it’s hard work that happens in a competition, and it inspires those who are watching it:
In real life, the extent of their self-inflicted, life-force-draining slog was hard to mock. It just doesn’t come across in a photo or a promo video. Just watching them was exhausting. We didn’t have the lung capacity to cheer through the whole workout, nor hands muscular enough to keep up the supportive applause.
And more to the point, sometimes it can inspire someone to change their lives:
Leaving a CrossFit event, you can’t help but think about the physical potential of your own body. It even inspired me, a committed sloth, to half-heartedly consider joining a gym for weeks after.
I encourage you to try out these WODs with us, and bring a friend to cheer you on. The experience of trying your hardest is different in a room full of cheering people than it is with just me yelling at you. It’s hard to explain until you’ve been there – and this is your opportunity to go there!
