Big Things Poppin
Happy Monday, folks! We’ve been working to make sure that everyone gets a chance to sign up for the classes that you’d like, and will very shortly be opening up more class times on the schedule – stay tuned for details on that! We’re also making a minor tweak to scheduling classes, cutting off changes at 1 hour before class time to give you more chance to know if you made it in off the waitlist. More details on that below the WOD.
In other big news, I won’t be coaching the morning classes today because I’ve got a special engagement Monday morning with Bernie Sanders! He’s coming to Somerville to support my candidacy and the rest of the Our Revolution slate here in Somerville and Cambridge. This time last year, I certainly didn’t anticipate getting to share a stage with Bernie… but it just goes to show that if you set some audacious goals and work diligently, you might even surprise yourself with the results.
Today we’ve got a delicious long WOD to sink your teeth into. One of the CrossFit classics is 4 Rounds of “Run 400m, 50 Air Squats”. We’re doing something similar today, but adding some high volume pullups and middlin’ weight barbell work to spice it up a touch. It’s 20 minutes long, so dig in and see how many rounds you can hit! I’m looking for those 50 air squats to take no more than 90 seconds, so get moving fast and keep up the pace!

CLASS RESERVATION POLICY CHANGE
We’ve been watching closely how people interact with the scheduling system lately. For 8 years, I’ve stayed committed to keeping maximum flexibility in your ability to schedule classes, and that’s not really changing. Unfortunately, due to that flexibility some people aren’t managing their schedules well and it’s causing people on the waitlist to not be able to get into their desired classes.
Starting Today, October 23, we’ll be making a minor change to our class reservation policy. You’ll still be allowed to book as far in advance and cancel or change your reservations anytime up until 60 minutes before your scheduled class starts with no impact to your number of classes per week.
However, if someone does not cancel a reservation more than 60 minutes in advance, or if they no-show a reserved class, they will lose the class for that week. This will give people on the waitlist a specific time to check to see if they have made it onto the class roster – 60 minutes in advance.
All of us on staff have spent months discussing this change, and while we’re reluctant to do it we think it’s important to help keep everyone mindful of both their time and the value of their fellow gym members’ time.
If you have some extenuating life events (hospital emergency, whatever) of course reach out to us. We still love you, we still believe in treating people with kindness first (instead of as products or consumers), and we still don’t want to charge anyone for something they’re not using. But to make sure that everyone gets to use the facility and has some basic predictability in managing their schedules, we’re going to make this change and enforce it starting today.

*Did everything Rx except for the second round of lunges where I apparently did back rack lunges instead of overhead.
I didn’t even notice until Nick mentioned it after class. Pretty bummed about that.
