Celebrating a PR
It’s been a crazy year since I got elected to local office. I can’t give enough thanks to the CrossFit Somerville community; this literally would not have happened without your support. Your help with volunteer shifts door knocking, that crazy morning run on election day when we put up over a thousand door-hangers… just amazing. It was also incredible to have your support for my campaign financially. Donations from CFSV members really fueled my campaign and made my win possible. After all, printing out over 8,000 pieces of campaign literature that we handed out door-to-door costs a lot of money!
The skills learned at CrossFit really are transferrable. Dedication, determination, toughness, endurance… these things all come in handy when we go out into the world to do hard things and create change. It’s always my hope that you take what you learn here and do the same.
I’ve been in office now for one year, and it’s been incredible. Hard work, new skills, and long hours to be sure – but we’re making changes happen. I’ve researched legal precedents, filed FOIA requests, held hearings, drafted legislation, passed resolutions, and even blocked funding requests to make sure our needs as a community are taken seriously and addressed. All of the progress I’ve made has me hopeful, but keeping that momentum going will require that I have the resources to stay in office asking the hard questions and using every scrap of data and every parliamentary and legal tactic available to force this administration to respond to our demands. Thanks to the dedicated crew of activists here in Ward 2, we’re staying ahead in this fight so far – but I need your help to push farther and do better in the next year, and hopefully in the next term.
I’m having a campaign re-election event, because the race begins again soon to stay in office! This Saturday at 6pm we’ll be gathering at Cantina La Mexicana right across from the gym in Union Square to celebrate the victories this year and rededicate ourselves to the fight ahead in 2019! I’d love to see you there – and if you can’t make it, I would also welcome your continued support with an online donation for the work I do to make the world a better place right here in Somerville.

I hope to see you at Cantina La Mexicana on Dec 1, and I thank you sincerely for your support!
The WOD today is a grippy one. I’ve heard some confusion over why the pairing of bear crawls and pullups (or other grippy movements) can be so rough… the answer is in your forearms, particularly your grip (hand/finger) flexors. Those muscles on the inside (anterior) forearms are the ones that stay flexed when you’re gripping. When you hit the deck for your bear crawls, those muscles get extended – stretched all the way out, and they stay that way while you’re crawling. It’s a nice complement that hits a different kind of push/pull that we use a lot in our programming!
WOD:
7 Rounds for Time
15 Dumbbell Power Cleans (50/35 each hand)
25′ Bear Crawl
15 Pull-ups
25′ Bear Crawl
WOD: 21:48 @30# and a mixture of pull-ups and ring rows
