Reaching for the Attainable

Here’s “the thing” about this cycle: it’s designed for where you’re at. Specifically, you’re in the middle of CF Open season, confronted once a week with a fixed target and less scaling options than your coaches usually provide… and you only have as much skill-proficiency as you’ve been able to develop in your time with us for those WODs.

What that gives us is a great opportunity once each week to push against a weight or challenge a bit beyond what we might choose when presented with an intended stimulus and a guide to help you get there. Instead, it’s a chance to measure where you’re at and push beyond what you previously thought possible. We see it every year, and this year is no different – like Mark R. with his big sets of Dubs last Friday that constitutued a Dubs PR, or Claire R. and her big clean PR when going into the 4th round of that WOD.

So, we’re setting you up in this cycle to meet you where you’re at in two ways. First, we’re frontloading the weeks to get good training in and making Thursdays a bit “weird” where we can, to introduce unusual stimuli and leave you somewhat fresh for Friday’s Open WOD. Secondly, we’re toning down some of the reps to make the high-skill motions a bit more attainable for people “on the cusp” of being able to attain them.

Today that means those sets of 20 dubs may seem tiny to those of you who are comfortably proficient at them already and they’ll seem like speed bumps in the WOD – but for people who just have a few dubs it’s a chance to settle in and reach for the achievable, even if it’s just a bit out of reach currently.

We encourage you today to lean into these dubs if you have even a few… after all, there’s a time cap on this, and you’ll get a good workout in either way.

WOD:
4 Rounds For Time
20 Toes-to-Bar
15 Burp Jumps (aka “Burps”)
40 Air Squats
15 Burp Jumps
20 Double Unders

* Burp Jumps (aka “Burps”) are jumping from a high plank to a crouch, feet next to hands, then back out to a plank. Just the hop-and-hip-tuck portion of a burpee.
Time cap: 22 minutes
