Building a strong community
We’re getting some good feedback regarding interest in raising chickens here at the box so we’ve decided to start putting plans together to get this project started in spring 2014. I’m personally quite excited about this as I firmly believe that the more involved you are with the food you eat the healthier you will inherently be. Plus, this is a great opportunity to be a part of something that increases all of our own self reliance.
Step 1: learn the process.
JT has coordinated with The Chickeness of http://www.yardbirdsbackyardchickens.com/ to have her come in to the box to teach a class on everything you need to know to raise backyard chickens. The class will be specifically tailored to how we can make that work in the space behind/around CFSV, but the basic lessons could be applied to a future project at your home or another location as well.
The class will be held at Crossfit Somerville (35 Prospect Street) on Wednesday, December 11 at 8pm, and will run for approximately 2 hours. There is no cost for you to participate (JT will generously be covering the expenses), so if you are interested, send Brian an email at
