Firebreather Fitness 5k!

This SATURDAY, JUNE 28TH we are very excited to announce our first annual 5k from CrossFit Fenway to  CrossFit Somerville. CFSV is almost exactly 3.14 miles away from CFF so we thought we would kick off the summer with an in-house 5k capped off with a BBQ with both communities. Anyone is welcome to feel free to bring friends. We will head out from CrossFit Fenway at 11:30am.

Some additional details:

You are welcome to meet at CrossFit Fenway, but if you would like to carpool over, meet at CFSV at 11am.

You don’t need to do the run, we also encourage you to just come hang out at CFSV, eat, drink and be merry with both CrossFit communities.

There will be meet and vegetables on the grill and some beer/cider provided but feel free to bring a side dish or extra beverages if you’d like.

There will be no Saturday morning class at 10am.

We will work out a “bag shuttle” for those of you going directly to CFF to get anything you bring there back to CFSV.

If you are interested in participating, let us know here on the blog or send an email to projects@crossfitsomerville.com.  If you forget, it’s no big deal but it will help us to have a general headcount.

WOD 1:

EMOM 12
1 squat snatch
3 OHS
ME deck squats

*if you miss the squat part of the snatch, that round turns into 1 power snatch + 4 OHS. Do try to choose a weight with which squat snatching is possible across all 12 minutes.

WOD 2:

AMRAP 12
50′ bear crawl sandbag drag (25′ forward, 25′ backward)
8 ttb

SCHEDULE REMINDER: We are trying a slight adjustment in the evening classes next week.  They will take place at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30pm instead of the normal 5, 6, and 7pm time slots.  There will also be no class on Friday, July 4th.

    Came in and did side work today, though I joined the class for 10 mins of the squat snatches, cause I needed it. 55#, didn’t count the deck squats.

    Then OTM 16 of 2 unbroken MUs (even), 5 HSPUs (odd). Was going to do 12 mins so I could start/stop with the class, but I had a lot left in me so I kept going. Minute 13 MUs were the highest I’ve ever caught a MU (usually I catch them in my armpits… terrible…).

    WOD 1: 45#, 57 deck squats. i just looked this up and, apparently, that was a PR! Wow, I had no idea. As lousy as my form occasionally was, I hit most of these, so true PR is higher.
    WOD 2: who knows – I just picked a not-too-heavy bag and tried to keep moving. That was the right choice for me this morning.

      Hillary – How’s your back after all those deck squats? I came home filthy dirty and with what can only be described as rubber burn on my back. But as a type this, I recall you used the blue mat. Smart girl!
