Magic Time
Y’all know it already: “JT Time is Magic Time“. And since I’m going out of town on a mini-vacation starting Wednesday, I’m covering some extra classes on Monday to make sure Nick and Kirstie still get days off.
We’re doing Deadlifts today, working our way up to our heaviest set of 5. The emphasis isn’t necessarily on volume, but on sneaking up on your max. The key to success will be warming up and preparing for the big load. Riding the right balance between rest and staying warm will also be crucial.
Don’t short the warmup sets. If you suspect your max at 5 is about 335, don’t just hit sets at 225, 275, and 315 before making the attempt. For a max at 335, I might prescribe sets at 95, 135, 185, and 225 before getting serious at 275, 305, 325, and then figuring out if you really have 345 or just 335 for the day. In fact, you should have enough in the tank to make attempts at both, and then maybe one more to really surprise yourself.
The WOD is a lightning fast burner to just kick off your day right, but the focus today is on lifting heavy for a big set. Everyone loves Deadlift Day, so let’s get at it. Deadlift Day is a special time.
In fact, I’m coaching every class on Monday, so no matter when you come in to get your lift on… it’s Magic Time.
