Making a Difference

Many thanks to all of you who came out this weekend for the final week of the CrossFit Open. We saw some incredibly strong performances there, led by Coach Kirstie who completed the WOD as RX in 15:50.

Thanks to all of your donations, we raised a lot of money for RESPOND. I personally matched all of your individual contributions, and so we were able to giveĀ $500 from CrossFit Somerville to help their mission.

Doing these workouts is about increasing our agency – our ability to create change in ourselves and the world around us. When we get stronger and more capable, we can put our energy into making a difference.

That’s also why I’m running for Ward 2 Alderman, ultimately. I’ve spent a lot of years working on becoming more capable – not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well – and I feel a responsibility to do more with that capability to make the world a better place. Whether it’s building a facility where more people can find community and help or working to serve in our city government, it is all the same work of increasing people’s agency in another way.

So congratulations to all of you this Open season on Making a Difference. I look forward to finding new ways to help each and every one of you make a difference in some new way this year.

STRENGTH:
Hang Power Snatch x3

WOD:
Every 90 seconds:
15 Unbroken Wallballs (20/14)
10 Pushups
* scale the Wallballs to a target you can keep unbroken
* scale the pushups to a point where you can complete them rapidly each round and still have a rest interval

    WOD: 165 seconds rest @ green ball, 5 pushups/round (10 first)

STR: 85#. Meh. I did like Kirstie’s suggestion on modifying my head position prior to the jump. It made a big difference and made the move feel easier.

    WOD: 202 seconds rest @ 14#, 10 PushUps.

    STR: 95#
    WOD: 164 seconds (dammit Ben!) @ 16
