DEADlift Eve

I hope you’re all recovered from the “traditional” weekend of parties! We had a blast here on Saturday morning (featured in the blog photo: a bunch of total goofballs) with our Great Pumpkin WOD, and it was great to have such a big group hamming it up. Your coaches have discussed making the “Thriller” dance the official warmup for a few weeks… I’m coaching the morning classes, and I gotta tell you that Nelly’s “spooky” Halloween playlist was so darn good that I might use it for all the classes tomorrow as well. 🙂

As for myself, we’re now 8 days away from election day and finding out how I’ve done on my target for the #SquadGoals Board – and I can’t get there alone. This weekend is going to be the big final push, so if you’d like to help you can sign up at this link for a shift or send email to the campaign and let us know what you’re available to do to help. CrossFitters have been a huge and important part of my support structure and campaign team, and I know y’all know how to buckle down when it’s time to work hard and finish strong. Sign up now! We don’t want to get to November 8 and wish we’d worked harder on November 7.

For the strength today we’re going back to that double-overhand grip deadlift work. This means no alternated grip, no hook grip, and no relief for that burning forearm feeling. We’re doing LONG sets today to really put all that increased grip strength to the test, so hold on tight and keep moving as you get these big sets done.

For the WOD, it’s gonna be a fast one. If your Doubles are on point and you can rip off the pullups, this WOD is feasibly done in 8 minutes or less. If you have to break up the pullups or struggle stringing together doubles, it could be twice as long… but let’s challenge ourselves and see how fast we can get the work done!

STRENGTH:
Deadlift
10-10-10
* double overhand grip only

WOD:
7 Rounds
10 Deck Squats
10 Pullups
20 Double-Unders

Scheduling Note: seeing as how this is the last week of my campaign, I’m going to be cancelling Wednesday night’s weightlifting class and Nick will be coaching the evening WODs + gymnastics. I’ll see you all on November 8 for some celebratory snatch work.

    Felt really good about this one. Tonight, I did 35 times as many pull-ups as I could have when I started out a couple years ago. Thanks for all the patient coaching from the staff and all the camaraderie from everybody else!
