Tommy V

Folks, today we’re taking it old school. I’m hoping you won’t have high-school gym-class flashbacks. Even if you do, don’t worry. We’re gonna make it all so much better this time, because you’re going to learn some good technique and finally get up that rope! So really, it’s like high school except WAY COOLER through the veil of nostalgia and the confidence of your current capabilities. (Kinda like watching “Stranger Things”, now that I think about it.)

After we’ve practiced those rope skills and brushed up on our climbing, we’ll put them to work in a Hero WOD called “Tommy V”. It’s been a while since we did this one.

We’re asking you today to take a bit of a thoughtful approach to your scaling, and we’ll have time to work on our thruster technique as well. Your knowledge of your front squat, push press, or thruster max will help us determine the weight you need to use for the workout. Ideally, we’re not using much more than 50% of your max thruster for this workout. Not everyone knows their thruster max, but we can use the front squat and push press as proxies to a certain extent.

Even though the thruster is programmed as a very heavy weight, don’t push it here unless you’re on the threshold of RX and want to test it for the occasion of a Hero WOD. We’ve got a hard cap of 25 minutes on this, and we’d ideally like you to finish well ahead of it. So load up reasonably, challenge your rope climbs, and give it your best!

ELECTION UPDATE: As for me, I’m just one day away from the election! We’ve got a crew of volunteers going out at 5pm on Friday to confirm voters, a wildcat crew going out at 4am on Tuesday morning to do a very important special mission, and volunteers working all day at the polls and on the doors to make sure all of our voters make it there to cast their votes!

Just like training for a competition, this is where 8 months of effort boils down to about 27 hours of hard work for victory. I could really use your help, so if you have any time at all to help on Monday night after 5pm or Tuesday anytime between 4am and 8pm, let me know! Hopefully we’ll all be celebrating a victory in Wednesday night’s classes! (And yes, I’ll be here to coach Monday morning and Wednesday evening regardless of the outcomes.)

Chalk was still there this evening… looks like you lost both legs and part of an arm… either that or you turned into a gingerbread cookie.

  3. Roger says:

17:13 @ 65#. First time ever where I feel like the thrusters are the rest.

  4. Niki Brown says:

12:13. I uh…. aggressively scaled the # of rope climbs. thrusters at 65.

  5. Eoin says:

    16:50 @ 65#, 10 / 6 / 3 Rope climbs per round…finally making some progress on the rope climbs..

  6. Michael Augustine says:

    12:59 @ 75# w/ full rope climbs.
    Thruster sets 15/6 – 8/7 – 9 unbroken (last few were a bit suspect)

  7. Erik says:

This one was killer. Thought I would be able to complete the rope climbs faster, and maybe could have if I had not switched from J grip to S grip in between.
