Keeping the Clock Running

My favorite event in the Winter Olympics is definitely the Biathlon. Not because I’m a big shooter or cross-country skier – but because it really demonstrates an element of fitness that I think doesn’t get tested often enough in sport.

There are shooting competitions and there are cross-country skiing competitions, but there’s something magical about *combining the two*. It’s not just about how fast you can get from point a to point b, but also how functional you can be in a high-demand activity when you arrive there.

To put it in “zombie apocalypse” terms (which is an old favorite pastime of ours), it doesn’t matter how good you are at killing zombies if you can’t outrun them. And it doesn’t matter how fast you are if you’re too tired when you reach your destination to kill some zombies.

So today we’re going to do a classic test of speed and cardiovascular endurace: Row 2k. But when we’re done, we’re going to keep the clock running because when the clock strikes 10 minutes we’ll be setting off on another timed challenge. If you move fast on the row, you’ll have more time to rest and recover before launching into the toes-to-bar and wallballs. Then again, if you have no gas left in the tank after your row, you won’t have much hope of a good time in the back half of the workout.

Those of you who are able to put both ends together today might be on your way to that olympic gold in Biathlon… or maybe just on your way to surviving another day in the zombie apocalypse.

WOD:

On a running clock, begin with:

ROW 2K

Then, at 10:00, do the following:

10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
Toes to Bar
Wall Balls (20/14)

    WoD: 6:58 for the row; 18:37 total @ 20# WB and 40ish TTB with remaining ~15 knees to chest (definitely making progress on the TTB!). So maybe can nail a few zombies before the apocalypse truly arrives.

    Wod: 8:09 on the row; 20# wb w/ knees to chest at 17:38. First time in months that I hung from the bar and kipped!! Elbows starting to feel better
