Move it more than you look at it
Today’s WOD features a classic interval cycle, called “Tabata”, where you work for 20 seconds, followed by 10 seconds of rest. We do this 8 times. When performing a Tabata, or any workout for that matter, with movements which you will moving weight, a common question arises- “How much should I use?”
You will hear me say quite often that I want you to “move it more than you look at it”, meaning, I’d like for you to select a weight which you can move with solid form and maintain the range of motion. Sometimes ego can get in the way of progress. Even if you think you can go heavier, you must always remind yourself of the hierarchy for that progress: Can I move the weight safely? Am I able to make it consistent? Intensity follows these, it doesn’t start before it. I will train everyone in that order ALL the time. Safety, Consistency, THEN Intensity. No one masters this stuff overnight, but we will help you get better at it- whether it’s selecting proper weight, scaling the movement or even getting in your ear mid-wod to tell you to slow down and breath.
